Footprint Reduction Consultant
6/14/2010 | Discipline:Auditing | City:Groningen | Country:Netherlands | Region:Europe
Location and team
KEMA’s Gas Consulting & Services business unit (GCS) has a team of a hundred advisers and technical experts. GCS offers consultancy services in relation to technical, strategic, economical and regulatory matters affecting all links in the gas value chain.
GCS works for utility companies, market regulators, producers and governments. The unit is made up of four teams: Gas Markets & Policy, Gas Infrastructure & Transport, Gas Quality & Flow and Sustainability & Clean Energy. Particular fields of interest are gas production and conditioning, gas infrastructure design and realization, integrity and asset management, safety and risk analysis, consultative services relating to testing and applications, sustainability services such as biogas integration, footprint reduction and support with issues relating to regulation, market and strategy, as well as the introduction of new market requirements.
The vacancy is in the Sustainability & Clean Energy Department, which is active in four fields closely associated with the transition to a sustainable energy economy. First, there is the integration of new, sustainable gases, such as biogases and hydrogen, into the existing gas infrastructure. The department also focuses on the theme of smart grids (intelligent networks), in the context of which the integration of gas and electricity plays a major role. The third key field for the department is CO2 transportation, one of the links in the CCS (carbon capture and storage) chain. Finally, there is footprint reduction, which centers on cutting emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, and on bringing down operating costs at gas companies and in industry.
Tasks
Under the European regulatory regime, the requirements made regarding CO2 equivalent emissions from industrial installations are getting ever stricter. In the gas industry and other sectors, there is consequently an increasing need for support in order to reduce the footprint of their activities. With our knowledge and expertise in the gas industry, we are ideally placed to provide such support. Using a range of data analysis and other techniques, we are able to help clients secure proper insight into their own operating processes. The impact of possible conservation measures, varying from leak minimization to total operational overhauls, can be carefully forecast. Viability is also assessed in terms of cost, return and cashflow implications. From there, the client is supported through the formulation and implementation of a footprint reduction policy.
