Minor deviations, major consequences

As everybody knows, a split second can make the difference between winning or loosing. But how accurate is this time measurement? The question about accuracy counts for any measurement you can think of.

Calibration
Our calibration laboratory can give you the answer and is also able to adjust your equipment so it will be as accurate as it should be. We focus on electrical and electronic equipment – we take also its safety into account – and on pressure, temperature, sound, vibration and time instruments. Our accredited certificates count as a proof of reliability to the external world.

Energy meter type approvals
Our Metering laboratory is focussing on electrical energy (kWh) metering. As you probably know, there are hundreds of millions kWh-meters installed all over the world. You will find one in every house or building. And each meter should do its’ job in a reliable way – there is a lot of money involved – for at least 20 years or more. Our lab can Type Test and certify new kWh meters, both the mechanical and electronic ones, according IEC and EN standards. Our lab is also Notified Body for the European MID, the Measurement Instrument Directive. The MID certificate gives access to all European countries.

Smart metering
Recently the “Automated Meter Reading” and “Advanced Metering Infrastructure” (AMR/AMI) technology was developed. (See also Open Meter, AMI and Dutch Smart Meter Requirements). This “Smart Metering” is developing fast, offering many advantages to both utilities and consumers. Our C&M lab takes care for the metrology part of this equipment and our KEMA consultants deal with all other issues.

Field tests
In the Netherlands our lab also takes care of all kWh meters installed, high-, medium- and low voltage. We control the quality of all these meters by coordinating all activities done by the utilities, according to procedures used for decades now. Since November 2009, with the sale of KEMA Quality, the Calibration and Metering Laboratory was added to KEMA TDT. KEMA decided that this lab had to remain at KEMA, fitting better in KEMA overall strategy.
